FOR LIFE:
One of my favorite aspects of #40kFor40 is the impact being made from a generational standpoint.

In 10 years from now, a family will have the constant pain of not having their child with them anymore. Then they will remember the when their kids Wish was granted and smile.

In 20 years from now, when #40kFor40 is forgotten by most, there will be a village somewhere that has a healthy stable economy with educated children and mothers because they no longer walk 4-6 hours one way for water.

In 40 years, there will be children whose grandparent was the first to *ever* graduate college and become a small business person- something that forever changed and impacted their family tree.

See, people may say #40kFor40 has finished, but it's really just beginning!!!

This year, I turned 40.


As my birthday got closer, my wife Sarah and my friends kept asking how I wanted to celebrate.

We'd been saving up to buy my dream car, a Tesla (in cash). Sarah really wanted to make this happen for my 40th.

While I wasn’t going to argue with her… (I'm not an idiot!)
I felt like there was something else I wanted to do, I just didn't know what…
So, I journaled.

As I journaled, I realized, as much as I enjoy traveling and owning nice things, like a Tesla, my heart beats for helping people.

Serving my family, friends, business partners and clients… is what I do.
My drive in life is to serve and empower others.
And what excited me the most was celebrating my 40th year by giving away $40,000 as a way of saying “Thank You”!!!
No, this isn’t a cheesy infomercial. And no, I’m not selling you anything!
As I reflected, I realized the greatest gifts I’ve ever received have been experienced in the moments when I’ve been able to impact others. Giving a smile, holding the door, listening to someone, empowering others… and yes, giving financially.

Then I thought: If I heard of someone sacrificing a Tesla to give away $40,000 cash to charities for their 40th, I’d probably want to participate…

How did I pick the 5 Charities to give to?
When Giving, I looked for 3 basic criteria:

#1. Meet a basic human need
#2. Provide hope and empowerment to those served
#3. Have a Proven track record of delivering results with the resources they receive.
Why I'm Giving:
#1: Joy

Make-A-Wish provides celebrations of Joy to children (and their families) who don’t have much to smile about.

As I’m celebrating my 40th, statistically, most of the Wish Kids won’t celebrate theirs.

I’ve been a donor of MAW for several years now. I know several families who have had “Wishes” granted and seen firsthand the joy, healing and lasting impact MAW has on both the child and the family.
#2- Clean Drinking Water

Clean water is a basic human necessity. Yet every day 2X the Population of the US doesn’t have easy access to it.

Charity:Water is changing this.

100% of all public donations go to fund clean water projects. They go a step further and prove where every dollar goes by providing photos and GPS coordinates to each of their 38,000+ water projects and 9.5+ Million people who Charity:Water has served so far.
#3: Education & Hope

Since 2005, Restore Haiti has blossomed into a community transformation project with over 1,000 children being fed and educated, several schools and 20+ homes built, clean water wells dug and a Healthcare Clinic opened.

The best part of this is that Haitian’s are the ones being empowered to run the schools, build the facilities, and serve and transform their community.

I’ve been to this community twice and my family has provided for several children to go through school. RH is now facing a challenge in sending students who desire to learn a Trade, to better serve their community.

Every dollar raised is earmarked to assist graduating sponsored Teens to be able to attend a Trade School and become highly productive citizens.
#4: Love & Racial Unity

Elwood Jones is a man who has dedicated his life to serving others through showing them they are loved and spreading a message of racial healing.

I’ve known Elwood for over 25 of my 40 years and he’s had such a significant impact on my life, I dedicate an entire chapter to him in my book that's releasing in 2020.

This donation will go toward empowering an incredible man, on a mission to bring racial healing and spread love through his 501c3 non-profit church.

(If the word church just made your skin crawl, think Mother Theresa, not The Righteous Gemstones.)

Being Healthy is something Billions take for granted.
Until we're not.

St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life threatening diseases. Thanks in part to treatments invented at St. Jude, Childhood cancer survival rate has increased from 20% to 80% in the past 50 years since St. Jude opened their doors!
